MISDEEDS, PAEDS AND THICK HEIDS

Gangs of thugs turned up at Firhill on Monday, wearing Celtic and Rangers scarves, intent on causing trouble. Flares were set off, seats were ripped up, sectarian chanting was heard and there were fights out on the streets. As expected, both Bill McMurdo and Loony Leggat claim that Celtic supporters were the main, if not only, culprits. The Daily Record, true to form, showed a picture of Celtic fans ripping out seats but omitted any evidence of the other fans doing the same, even though Partick Thistle has let it be known that both sets of supporters damaged the seats. The Daily Record also pointed the finger at Celtic fans shouting and singing about liquidation, Craig Whyte etc. as provoking the Trigger's Brush FC supporters. So any violence perpetrated by Trigger's Brush FC fans will be perfectly justified then!

Leggat goes one better by lying through his teeth about the Scottish Cup Final of 1980. He says that Celtic fans invaded the pitch and attacked the poor, innocent Rangers fans, who tried to defend themselves before being beaten up by the police. Anyone who has ever seen these shocking scenes, which have been repeated many times in documentaries, can see clearly the Rangers hordes charging across the pitch to attack the Celtic fans. The police then charge the Celtic fans, ostensibly helping their fellow masons. Leggat also talks about a 'full-scale riot' at Dens Park; a riot that only happened in his own, fevered mind. A few drunks singing and shouting is hardly on a scale with the invasion of Manchester!

Leggat and McMurdo also decide to use the behaviour at Firhill as a stick with which to beat Peter Lawwell, who has suggested that perhaps alcohol could be served inside football grounds. Given the extortionate prices charged at football grounds I would not be surprised if you would have to fork out a fiver for a half-pint, plastic tumbler of lager. I can't imagine anybody having enough cash to get bladdered! And scare stories about folk smuggling in Buckfast are just that: stories. If it's that easy to smuggle in a half-bottle of Buckie then why isn't everyone doing it now?

Meanwhile paedophilia and sex abuse are back in the news. PR 'Guru' Max Clifford was arrested. Strangely Bill McMurdo felt the need to tell us what a stand-up bloke Clifford is and how he found the allegations difficult to believe. I seem to recall everyone saying the same about Jimmy Savile. I was up at Glencoe before he died and nobody had a bad word to say about him. I take it that nullifies all the allegations against him!

Fast forward a couple of days and Bill is telling us about the allegations against a Catholic priest and a nun. No 'innocent until proven guilty' this time! He makes no mention of Operation Pallial, which has turned up extensive abuse in children's homes in Wales and a cover-up that involved a whistleblowing member of staff being sacked. Even politicians were apparently involved in the abuse. Even though Bill likes to make out that he is against all child abuse he seems to pick and choose which people he is going to condemn.

Such hypocrisy - bigotry disguised as social concern - is enough to make a decent person sick. It seems that everyone is innocent until proven guilty; unless you happen to be a Catholic, that is!

Celtic, meanwhile, were beaten 3-2 by Motherwell on Sunday, which the Trigger's Brush FC 'Loyal' thinks shows how poor Celtic are. 'Wrang-Door' McCall has been moaning for a while now about how Hibs are helping his opponents by concentrating too much on the Scottish Cup Final. Of course, the TBFC mob all readily agreed with him. I suppose it's escaped their notice but Celtic have already won the league and will be looking to the Cup Final now as well. I guess, however, that this would not occur to their feeble minds!

Continuing the bigotry theme, posting something on The Sun's website is getting harder and harder, especially if you're speaking the truth. They had a non-story today about ex-Cardinal O'Brien moving into a house in Dunbar. Of course, the bigots are all over it, giving their opinion about how evil the Catholic Church is etc. They even have the nerve to call the Catholic Church bigoted! I tried to reply to all of this, pointing out the bigoted hypocrisy of some of these posters. The Sun, however, saw fit not to publish my post. Three times I tried.

I also tried to reply to the tired old arguments about holding companies and a club not being a company etc etc. I pointed out, or tried to point out, that in Trigger's Brush FC's statement to the Diddy Stock Exchange they said that Sevco Scotland had bought the CLUB'S ASSETS. Nothing said about holding companies or anything of the sort. Of course, my post was disallowed!

For years The Sun has been the paper of choice for right-wing forelock-tuggers, racists and out-and-out fascists. Now it seems it has taken over from the Daily Record as the voice of religious bigotry in Scotland!
