MORTE DE MERLIN

I think we've discovered that Auld Pishy is still alive and kicking. He's obviously been sharing his deadly, home-make cocktails with Sooperally. How else to explain the utter keich that Sooper's been spouting to the press? He describes McCulloch's hat trick as 'Roy of The Rovers stuff' and says how amazing  it is that McCulloch scored a hat trick from central defence. He makes it sound as if McCulloch did three lung-busting runs the length of the pitch to put away three tremendous strikes. The reality is a lot more prosaic. Does anyone remember Roy of The Rovers relying on the help of the referee? If anything, he was more likely to be fighting the odds against a corrupt official, the way Bisto's opponents have to do every week.

Sooper also makes comparisons with Paul Gascoigne's treble against Aberdeen in 1996. Granted, one of those goals was a penalty but the other two were sublime pieces of skill. Gascoigne could be a right dirty player (Remember how all the referees used to 'pick on him'?) but he was also an extremely skillful one. McCulloch isn't fit to tie his boot laces. Gascoigne's treble was also against a team of fellow professionals, not hard-working amateurs.

Instead of a lap of honour, the Bisto team should have hung their heads in shame. It's like somebody at work boasting that they scored a hat trick out in the street against a team of ten-year-olds. There are definitely some hard necks down Govan way.

The Bisto Kids, however, are still complaining that they want to be entertained and see some skills on display. Apparently playing with flair is the 'Rangers (sic) way'. Eh? Run that by me again. Is this the same support that voted the leg-breaker as the 'Greatest Ever Ranger'? From what I recall it was always 'win at any cost' with Rangers and the supporters were happy to go along with it. Now, suddenly, they're under the illusion that their old team was always renowned for its style. Talk about deluded!

Some of the Bisto Kids have got more to worry about than how the team is playing. Ronnie and Reggie have decided to call time on personal attacks against them; you know the type of thing, calling  them crooks and comparing them with gangsters. (Oops!) What makes me laugh is the way these bloggers call everybody at Ibrox crooks while trying to whip up support for Dave King, who is as big, if not more of, a crook than anybody running Bisto! It looks like the anti-board bloggers are going to end up in court. I wonder if King will help out with the fines!

Speaking of bloggers, McMurdo, it seems, has decided to hang up his wand, cape and pokey hat and not write about Rangers (sic) anymore. He says that two things have made his decision for him. On Sunday, one of his regulars held up a banner supporting the board and was called a 'Fenian bastard' for his troubles. Apparently the 'bastard' bit didn't particularly offend the banner waver or McMurdo; it was the qualifier that upset them. (Strange, that. They've all been telling us for years that there's nothing offensive about the word 'Fenian'!)

On Wednesday the same individual suffered abuse and he and his kids were threatened. These two occurrences have apparently sickened McMurdo. He calls the ones doing the threatening 'interlopers, who are looking to destroy the club'. He tars everyone that is against the board with this brush. So Chris Graham, Craig Houston and the rest of them are all Celtic sleeper agents, who have been insinuating themselves into the Rangers, and then Bisto, support until the time was ripe for them to strike? As usual, anyone connected with Bisto is ready to blame everyone else for their troubles!

It seems McMurdo has forgotten that threats and intimidation is the 'Rangers way.' Even the team was renowned for this, rather than the silky skills that the Bisto Kids are now claiming, as Brian Clough once pointed out. I remember reading how Rangers fans would try to invade the pitch in the Sixties to get games abandoned if their team was getting beaten. In the Seventies Andy Cameron could parade his support for Rangers while Billy Connolly had to pretend to be a Partick Thistle fan. Even Cameron received threats when he suggested signing a Catholic at an AGM. Robbie Coltraine received death threats because of his Mason Boyne character, while the Sun was intimidated into abandoning plans to serialise Phil Mac's book and book stores were threatened for stocking it. And then there's the bomb threats to Neil Lennon and others. And McMurdo acts suprised?

From what I've heard there were full-scale battles going on at Ibrox on Wednesday, reminiscent of the pitched battle in Chapter 10 of 'Torrent', though, as usual, we've heard nothing about it from our Fourth Estate. Do you think they'd be so silent if it had happened at Celtic Park?

Probably the real reason McMurdo is packing it in is because Bisto has severed its connection with Jack Irvine and Media House. Many posters on his blog have accused him of being on the payroll of Media House and his sudden decision seems to confirm this. If he does start writing about Rangers (sic) again, I wonder if he'll be so supportive of the board!

The McMurdo disciples are all up in arms at the news, many of them blaming Celtic and RCs! (?) One character made me laugh, bragging about his 10 O Levels and 4 Highers, which means that he can 'THINK' for himself. Obviously none of his qualifications were in English: "I am a Rangers (sic) supporter END OFF." and "...be vigalent." He suggests that educational standards have slipped since his day; obviously they improved between the time he got his qualifications and I got mine. Such dreadful spelling and punctuation would be penalised in every exam paper; obviously they were a bit more lenient in 1973 than they were in 1978!

A big thanks to the folk that have written reviews about my books on Amazon. Such glowing references had me blushing! To everybody else, why haven't you got your copy of 'Torrent' yet? I've got hundreds viewing this blog but I haven't even sold twenty copies yet. If you haven't got a Kindle you can download an app to read the book on your computer. Or you could splash out and order a paperback copy! I get 26p in royalties no matter which one you buy, so I'm not looking to have wealth off the radar! Come on. 77p is hardly going to break the bank is it? Come on. I don't have a DONATE button on here and I'm not subjecting you to adverts for the Puritan Hard Drive or anything. I've got a rabbit that needs kept in Timothy hay here. You don't want her to have to resort to inferior food, do you?

Roy bangs another penalty past the part-time goalie.
